The future of cities has already arrived in Panama City. We are Porta Norte, a new, comprehensive community located north of the capital, and we are completely transforming the concept of the city. We build home projects with absolutely every service and amenity, as well as greener, more walkable spaces that maintain a balance with nature. We invite you to discover our philosophy.
At Porta Norte, we’ve designed a city with every amenity—from schools to shops—where urban life meets nature. Yes, we have beautiful home designs and public squares for community life, but we also preserve century-old trees, along with their flora and fauna. Living in a city doesn’t have to be at odds with living in harmony with the environment; in fact, they go hand in hand.
The WHO recommends having at least one tree per resident on a city block. |
Did you know that, according to a study conducted in Toronto, having 10 more trees on our block can make us feel seven years younger? That’s incredible! And yet, the trend over the past few decades has been to cut down trees to build cities. Without a doubt, we did it backward, but it’s not too late—we still have time to build green urban environments.
It’s not just about having trees around us and living alongside native flora and fauna, but also about how we get around. During the 20th century, humanity and cities prioritized the automobile as a means of transportation, but there’s no doubt that this century is the era of sustainable mobility, especially walking, cycling, and public transit.
When we focus on bicycles, Panama City has between 12,000 and 20,000 bikes (depending on the records). This means that more and more people are choosing to get around by bicycle, but we can still reach an even higher number.
On the other hand, when was the last time you walked the streets of the capital just for pleasure? We understand that the midday sun sometimes makes it impossible, but here we can revisit the importance of trees: by having tree-lined streets, we can enjoy shade and thus the opportunity to go for a walk, even at noon.
For all of this, at Porta Norte we have planned bike routes that connect the four corners of the development, as well as public transportation routes that link all of Porta Norte to each other and to other points in the capital. And let’s not forget the great benefit of having wide, shaded sidewalks for walking to school, grabbing coffee with friends, or going shopping.
Walking around the city is very important; it has clear benefits. Here they are:
Walking is the natural form of human mobility. Although it may seem obvious, it’s always necessary to remind ourselves of this. Our bodies are made to walk, to move thru our environment, so walking primarily offers these benefits:
Panama City has grown in various directions, giving rise to housing projects in North Panama such as Porta Norte, which stands out because we have a vision that aligns with the new times we live in. Instead of cutting down trees, we plant them; instead of giving absolute priority to cars, we encourage cycling and, above all, walking. We have spaces for houses or apartments, as well as commercial, educational, and entertainment areas.
We are planting the seed of the Panama City of the future, and we want you to be a part of it. Get in touch with us to learn about our progress and benefits, or, if you prefer, sign up for our waiting list and you’ll soon receive an invitation to explore our first housing project, planned for April 2025.
